Thanks to the good people at Two Writing Teachers for sponsoring the Slice of Life Story Challenge. Today is Day 17 and I am continuing to challenge myself with poetry. As The Man and I did some backyard clean up last week, I came across this gem and it got me thinking about warm days past...and hopefully yet to come.
Thoughts of Summer...
I found you
after the snow melt
Winter's rapid onset left you
abandoned
at your post
Then Winter's winds tossed you
to the ground
I remember you
Your vibrancy
Your sweet reflection
Your silent call
I remember your visitors
Buzzing
Zipping
Zooming
Silently
of
Sipping Flashes
Emerald
Dipping
Trish,
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect poem. I loved this line, "After winter's rapid onset / left you / abandoned." That's really the way it was. The shape of your poem at the end was fascinating, like a hummingbird zipping here to there to find the next place it will land.
I broke my hummingbird feeder at the end of last season. I need to go out and find a new one before the hummingbirds return.

Thanks Cathy! We got this hand blown one at Dawes Arboretum last fall. I was so surprised to see it in one piece! I knew it had fallen but hadn't ventured out to look for it til this past weekend. (Yeah... had a little fun playing with that last line. This poetry thing is growing on me! )
DeleteWhat a wonderful way with words you have. You did a great job of showing, not just telling.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Kind words indeed, especially since I preach them to my students every day!
